After years of using hitch and hatch mounted bike carriers, last year I decided to purchase a Yakima HighRoad, and I want to share my thoughts with you all. This bike mount has been an absolute game-changer for me, making every trip with my bike a breeze. I can’t recommend it enough, especially for those who love to explore new trails and destinations with their trusty two-wheeler. Today, I want to tell you all about my experience using this fantastic bike mount, which I’ve mounted on the factory cross bars of my Subaru Forester.

Moreover, this mount is incredibly easy to install – it took me no time at all to securely attach it to my Forester’s factory cross bars. Now, let’s talk about the actual functionality of this bike mount. The Yakima HighRoad securely holds my bike in place, with no worry about it wobbling or falling off during transport. It’s compatible with a wide range of bike styles and sizes, so you won’t have any trouble accommodating your favorite ride. The mount’s torque-right knob ensures a secure fit, and its zero-contact design protects my bike’s paint job from any potential damage. The built in lock allows me to secure my bike to the vehicle and the rack itself is also locked to the roof rack. With that being said, I still wouldn’t rely on the lock if you want to keep your bike safe, but it’s a good deterrent.
One of my favorite things about the Yakima HighRoad is how it has simplified the process of loading and unloading my bike. Even being tall, reaching the roof of my Subaru Forester to secure my bike can be a bit of a challenge. However, I’ve found the perfect solution – a folding step stool! By using a step stool, I can easily access the bike mount and quickly secure my bike for transport. Just keep in mind that you will be lifting your bike a considerable height, depending on your vehicle, if considering this type of rack.
The Yakima HighRoad has exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s stylish, easy to install, and securely holds my bike in place during transport. Paired with a folding step stool, loading and unloading my bike has never been easier.
